The Dinosaur Game was born inside Google Chrome back in 2014, created by developers Sebastien Gabriel, Alan Bettes, and Edward Jung. Their goal was to add a small surprise for users when the internet was down — something lighthearted to ease the frustration of disconnection.

When your internet suddenly drops and the familiar “No connection” screen appears, frustration usually follows. But for millions of people around the world, that moment has become an invitation to play one of the most iconic mini-games ever created — the Dinosaur Game, also known as the Chrome Dino or T-Rex Runner.

It’s simple. It’s endless. And it’s strangely addictive.

???? A Game Born Out of Boredom

The Dinosaur Game was born inside Google Chrome back in 2014, created by developers Sebastien Gabriel, Alan Bettes, and Edward Jung. Their goal was to add a small surprise for users when the internet was down — something lighthearted to ease the frustration of disconnection.

The result? A pixelated T-Rex running through a desert, leaping over cacti and dodging flying pterodactyls.

According to the developers, the dinosaur represents the prehistoric age before Wi-Fi, a time when humans had no internet — just like when your router goes offline. The game’s code name during development was “Project Bolan”, a playful reference to Marc Bolan, the lead singer of the 1970s band T. Rex.

What started as a hidden Easter egg quickly became a worldwide sensation. Today, the Chrome Dino is one of the most played games ever, with billions of rounds started since its release.

????️ How to Play

The gameplay couldn’t be simpler — and that’s exactly what makes it so addictive.

When Chrome shows the offline dinosaur on your screen, you just press the spacebar, the up arrow, or tap the screen on mobile. The T-Rex starts running, and you must jump over cacti and duck under pterodactyls.

The longer you survive, the faster the game becomes. As the score increases, the background switches from day to night, bringing new challenges and a hypnotic rhythm to the endless desert.

It has no levels, no save points, and no upgrades. The goal is simple: run as far as you can.

Your reflexes are your only weapon.
